HISTORY OF MASJID ABDUL ALEEM SIDDIQUE MADRASAH
A. Full-time Madrasah
1. In 1992, Masjid Abdul Aleem Siddique started a full time Preschool teaching nursery and kindergarten children and begin with an enrolment of only 35 children. The Preschool has come a long way. It grew from 35 to 250 children. The Nursery and the Kindergarten classes are conducted from Monday to Thursday.
2. The Preschool curriculum emphasises the complete integration of Islamic education, cognitive, emotional, moral, social and physical development. The subjects are taught in Malay and English language.
3. The Preschool classes are designed to prepare the children for Primary education. At the same time, the children are imbibed with the basics of Islam, good morals and character so that they would grow up to be a responsible citizens.
B. Weekend Madrasah
1. In the same year 1992, our mosque also started the weekend Madrasah. Haji Abdul Majid Abdul Hamid, then Chairman of the Mosque Management Board mooted the idea. With the co-operation of Ustad Ayed Abdillah Al-Jufri and Mr Khairunan Ali from MUIS, the madrasah was incepted with material sponsored by Haji Abdul Aziz Kajai from Singapore Casket and other sponsors.
2. The Madrasah offers Islamic education from kindergarten to lower Secondary Level. The Students would have to sit for in-house examinations at the end of every year and would also sit for the PSLE prepared by MUIS when they are in Primary 6 Level. The subjects offered in this weekend Madrasah are Arabic Language, Morals and Behaviour, Quranic Reading, Quranic Memorisation, Oneness of God (Monotheism), Islamic Law, Islamic History and Traditions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
3. Since it’s inception, our weekend Madrasah has received a very encouraging response from the Muslim Community, near and far. In 1992, the Madrasah started off with about 200 students. The numbers increased to 500 to 1000. As a result of this positive and encouraging response, the Madrasah had to increase the classes offered to accommodate the increase of student intake. The weekend Madrasah classes is conducted every Saturday and Sunday.
4. Due to the increase in intake, the Mosque approached Haji Mohd Salleh Mosque (in Geylang) to jointly operate another madrasah within the premise of Haji Mohd Salleh Mosque.
5. In the year 2000, the Madrasah at Haji Mohd Salleh Mosque began with more than 165 students on every Sunday.
6. Our Madrasah aims to provide these students a good balance of education by providing them a fundamental study of the Islamic sciences. These Madrasah classes also instil upon the students the moral and social responsibility to contribute positively towards the country and society.
